Phase rotation
When you install 10 chargers on a single circuit with the phase sequence L1, L2, L3, you might run into a problem. Single-phase cars can only charge on L1, which means if multiple chargers are used for single-phase cars, L1 can become overloaded while L2 and L3 remain underutilized.
This not only leads to low power capacity utilization but also causes significant phase imbalances.
To address this, many electricians rotate the phases for different chargers on the same circuit. For instance:
- Charger 1: L1, L2, L3
- Charger 2: L2, L3, L1
- Charger 3: L3, L1, L2
This way, when multiple single-phase cars are charging, the load is evenly distributed across all three phases.
However, when working with the NexBlue Zen load balancer, which requires a fixed phase sequence of L1, L2, L3, it’s crucial for each charger to know its exact phase sequence. If the chargers don’t have this information, the total current readings on each phase will be inaccurate, potentially causing the entire dynamic load balancing system to fail.
Therefore, we provide an user interface for installer to set the actual phase sequence of a charger. As shown in the diagram below:
- Left side: Shows the wiring structure of the charger.
- Right side: Displays the phase sequence of the power grid connected to the charger.
If you discover that the phase sequence is incorrect, simply select and set it to the actual connected phase sequence here. We will assist you in automatically swapping the phase sequence, ensuring that the relevant functions within the charger can continue to operate normally.
We provide this feature during the installation workflow on the installer app, and you can also modify the settings after installation both on the installer app and the partner portal.
